Worn Out

Recently I’ve felt overwhelmed by the seemingly monotonous tasks and frustrating challenges I’ve been facing. The reason is that most of the issues I’ve been dealing with are repairs, maintenance, or replacement for things that have broken down or worn out. For example, this week alone, I spent hours troubleshooting our washer, which wasn’t working correctly.

I even reached out to an appliance technician, who told me, “you could spend hours chasing the problem down. It may be best to replace it.” Unfortunately, that was not an option as I didn’t believe it was beyond repair. Finally, after sweating gallons of sweat, hours of examination, dismantling, and even shedding blood, I discovered the possible issue—worn damper shocks.

My research led me to learn that when the shocks on a washer go out, it can throw off the washer sensors and give the washer false readings, causing it to stop mid-wash or provide an error code. Although not a complicated repair, it is laborious to diagnose and very frustrating. It also cost me a considerable amount to purchase and driving distance to obtain the parts.

Unfortunately, this replacement didn’t solve the problem. I’m still hopeful that I will be able to repair the washer but may come to terms with ending that quest soon. I hate conceding, but I need to acknowledge that everything comes to an end. My situation reminds me that everything in this world is wearing or breaking down. It’s an imperfect world in constant need of repair and maintenance.

However, there’s a greater hope than our circumstances. God promises us that one day he will make all things new again, perfect and without blemish as they once were. So, although we may feel worn out and defeated at times, we must persevere and continue to face the challenges of this world today with hope and faith in a better tomorrow.
