“Dad, the screen is just black, and nothing’s happening.” When I heard these dreaded words, I knew the situation was going to get complicated. iMac users refer to this as the “Black Screen of Death.”

The black screen of death is when the screen goes black, but the computer continues to operate as if the screen is off. In essence, you can’t see anything on the screen. This situation renders the computer useless as there’s no way to know what you’re doing.

The cause of the “black screen of death” can be related to hardware gone bad, software issues, or several other factors. Regardless, it requires an in-depth diagnostic and process of elimination to discover the root of the problem.

This story reminds me of how we, too, are susceptible to the “black screen of death” syndrome in our lives. Sometimes parts of our lives fail, rendering us useless. When this happens, we need to take a careful inventory and run a diagnostic of our life to determine the root cause and repair it.
