When younger, I became fascinated with growing my food. I loved the idea I could plant some fruits and vegetables and then harvest them. One of the vegetables I planted were sweet potatoes.

I started enthusiastically but, within a few months, was caught up with other things and didn’t have time to attend to the garden. Eventually, I harvested everything and cleared the land.

Amazingly, within a few weeks, I noticed some buds starting to sprout from the ground. When I dug up the soil, I realized they were the sweet potatoes which had continued to grow underground. I ended up enjoying them one last time.

This story reminds me of the parable of the sewer and how God desires for all of us to be good soil ready to receive His word. When we do, we’ll produce a bounty of fruit when we least expected.
