One of the best examples of generosity is my cousins Ben and Dennis. Growing up, they never said no to a request and went even further by always offering help, money, or whatever was needed.
I remember my grandmother scolding them for always “giving away” all of their money to whoever asked. Whether it was for candy, a bus ride, or anything anyone wanted, all they had to do was ask.
One day as we were discussing where to go and what to do, I mentioned I couldn’t go because I was short a few bucks. Without hesitation, Ben reached in his pocket and pulled out the money. “Thanks!” I said. “Let’s go.” He then replied, “Don’t worry, you go, and I’ll join you next time.”
He had given me all of the money in his pocket without hesitation. When I discovered this, I thanked him and returned the money and told him we would both go together when we had the money.
What I love most about them is they don’t worry about there not being enough to go around. Although I often struggle with this and need to remind myself that our heavenly Father owns all, and we’re just administrators of what’s his. This truth means we’re empowered to operate from a mentality of abundance rather than scarcity.
