Cut it Out

As a physical therapist in a hospital, my wife sees thousands of patients each year. Patients go to her department to rehabilitate parts of their bodies after surgery, injury, or disease. Many times she’s treated patients dealing with necrosis.

Necrosis is, by definition, the death of cells in living tissue caused by external factors such as infection, trauma, or toxins. Unfortunately, necrosis is always detrimental to the health of the patient and can be fatal. Therefore, it’s necessary to surgically remove the necrotic tissue to avoid complications and harm to the patient.

Once removed, the patient can begin healing. The healing process starts when the doctor sends them to rehab to improve or restore their functional movements. The goal of therapy is to stimulate circulation and strengthen weakened muscles so that patients can resume their lives.

This situation reminds me of the devastating dangers sin can have in our lives. We won’t even realize how sin continues to worsen until it eventually jeopardizes our entire being. Only when we cut away the sin and feed our spirit, will we begin to heal.

Read:

Read and meditate on Colossians 3:1-10 for yourself.  *Keep in mind that in today’s reading, the word “Mortify or Death” comes from the Greek word νεκρόω (nekroō) which means to “put to death” or “cut away.” and is the root of the word necrosis.

Pray:

What sin in your life do you need to “cut away” before it jeopardizes your being? Be real; be honest.

Meditate / Make It Real:

Create a plan of action on how you will remove this sin from you life today and replace with “heavenly” things. What will it take? Be specific.
