My brother in Christ Phil is a true evangelist and missionary. Despite having a full-time job, he uses all of his resources to accomplish God’s will. As an employee for a major airline, he uses his travel benefits to do mission work.

On one such trip, he and his wife found themselves on the outskirts of a small rural town in Nicaragua. This trip was a follow up to previous trips focusing on providing running water for the people. The problem was the people would walk a considerable distance to gather water and bring it back home. The solution was to draw water from the mountain rocks down to the town.

As he shared pictures of the project, he also shared photos and videos of the people gathering to worship and study God’s word. The expression of joy in their faces and voices was so encouraging. It also convicted me of how we live in a country with such great sources and yet leave God for last.

Although many of us have the essentials for our physical needs, many live in a spiritual drought. Spiritually thirsty people seem to focus on what they don’t have rather than what they do. They’re always striving to quench a spiritual thirst with things that will never fill instead of being filled by God, which is everlasting water.

Let’s learn a lesson from this Nicaraguan town because they consider themselves rich beyond measure for receiving life-giving water from above both physically and spiritually.
