If you’ve been reading these devotionals regularly, you’ll remember I’ve mentioned issues with my computer. Not long ago, I encountered the dreaded “white screen of death” on my iMac. After doing extensive research, I realized it was more than likely the video card.

I went ahead and purchased a replacement based on the specifications noted on the original box. After receiving the replacement part, I realized it wasn’t going to work with my computer, as I had upgraded a few years back and forgotten. Thankfully it would work for my wife’s iMac, which experienced the same problem.

Her computer is now running flawlessly, but mine not so much. Once again, I researched the replacement part for mine but was growing weary of spending more money on a ten-year-old computer. As a last-ditch effort, I came across many videos, proclaiming that “baking” the card would work.

Baking an iMac video card requires removing the video card and placing it in an oven at 400 degrees for about eight to nine minutes. All of this seems wholly ludicrous and, according to some mechanical and electrical engineers, downright stupid. My thought was, “what do I have to lose?”

Amazingly enough, it worked! I’m writing this devotional on the very computer I considered was doomed for the digital scrap yard. Everything in me thought this would never work, but somehow, the intense heat may have helped “fuse” some of the circuitry. Regardless of the reason, it’s back up and running.

This story reminds me I don’t always need to know how exactly everything will work but instead, need to have more faith to know it will. When we put our trust in God and accept Christ as Lord over our lives, he’s sure to take our discardable lives and give us the fire to revive us.
