I have great memories of joyous laughter and playing as I was growing up. There were many days of running through the neighbor’s yards, playing with friends, building forts out of left-over cardboard, riding my bike until the sun came down, and not having a care in the world.

I also recall my parents telling me to enjoy the moment because it was not always going to be this way. They said that eventually, we would have burdens and responsibilities and no time for play.

Unfortunately, this becomes a reality for many of us. We buy into the lie that adulting is all about seriousness and no time for fun. As I watch my kids grow-up, I realize we need more silliness in our lives.

I enjoy hearing their laughter and silly jokes and laugh to myself as I listen to them chuckle over a fart joke or some outlandish story about a man that flies across the globe nesting on people’s roofs (creatively bizarre, right?).

Letting them go on reminds me of my childhood and that we should never lose our sense of fun and laughter.
