Today we have the convenience of flipping on a switch for instant light. Before electricity, a fire was the only way for people to illuminate the darkness. People used things such as torches to lamps as a light source but found it challenging to harness. This until William Murdoch pioneered how to produce and store coal gas so that, by 1792, he was able to light his house.

A few years later, he lit-up the entrance to the premises of the Manchester commissioners of police, followed by the inside – and, to the wonder of the locals, the outside of James Watts and Matthew Boulton’s famous shop in Birmingham.

These advancements set the stage, eventually leading to the invention of the light bulb. As a result, the light bulb helped usher in the industrial age, which directly affected the world we live in today.

The need to light the darkness is inherent to all of us. There is comfort, security, and many more benefits to light. Today, be a light unto the world that brings hope and clarity of Jesus Christ for generations to come.
