Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a novel written by Robert Louis Stevenson. The story is about how Dr. Jekyll, a kind, well-respected, and intelligent scientist experiments with science, to bring out his “hidden” nature.

His “hidden” nature is Mr. Hyde, an evil, unrepentant, and irresponsible man who goes around committing crimes and destroying lives. Throughout the story, Dr. Jekyll tries to control Mr. Hyde, but eventually, Mr. Hyde takes over and dooms them booth.

Men tend to live what I call a “Jekyll and Hyde” life. There are so many definitions out there of what it means to be a man that we eventually just “split.” We think we need to be one way with our woman, another man with our children or family member, and yet another man with our friends and colleagues. We, in essence, have multiple personalities. It’s no wonder we eventually go mad!

The truth is there is no perfect man other than Jesus Christ. Even when you look in the bible, all men struggled with something, from adultery to drinking, greed, theft, thievery, etc. At every page you turn, you’ll find a fallen man.

What I have found is that a real man seeks the Lord and submits to His authority. When a man submits to the Spirit’s power to govern and guide him eventually becomes the man, God called him to be.

Daily Directive:

Read:

Read and meditate on 1 Peter 5:6-10 for yourself. Meditate on them, memorize them, do whatever it takes for them to sink in.

Pray:

What is your definition of submission to God? How does this compare or contrast with the reading? Journal the journey. Be real. Be honest.

Meditate / Make It Real:

What will you start doing today to fully submit under God’s authority? Share this with that fellow brother and have them hold you accountable.
