About a year ago, I committed to writing this blog. At the beginning, I had a problem with consistency and found myself writing sporadically. I would write when it “fit” into my schedule. As a result, I felt guilty due to my inconsistency.

I couldn’t quite figure out why, but I knew I needed to do something about this because it was necessary. After much contemplation and consideration, I realized I was overwhelming myself. I built up this crazy idea I needed to write a perfect, epic novel every day, and the thought of this became too much for me.

That’s when I readjusted and recommitted. I permitted myself to mess up because I realized it was going to take a lot of writing to get to where I needed to be eventually. I also committed to writing every day, regardless of how I felt.

Looking back, I cringe at my early writing, but I also see the progressive improvement over time. I’ve improved because I’ve been receptive to feedback and intentional about making positive changes. I know my writing skills are still a work in progress, but regardless, I press on confidently, knowing I’m improving every day.
