As part of Lifework Leadership, there is an annual Iron Chef competition. The cook-off requires program participants to separate into groups and compete against each other for the prize of Iron Chef. Groups are created at random by drawing. Afterward, the host presents the groups with the main ingredients and allows them a few minutes to discuss the dishes they’ll produce.

The timed competition gets pretty intense as we dice, cook, sear, and prepare dishes. During the race, we communicate and coordinate our efforts. Timing and teamwork are critical, as all the ingredients must come together at the right time. We also have to factor in the final plating when presenting to the judges.

“Times up.” said the host. Afterward, we confidently presented our very best to the judges. The judges sampled all the groups’ three-course meals and, in the end, elected us winners.

We were ecstatic to see our efforts rewarded. Looking back, it was because we each used our individual strengths and talents for the benefit of the team. Scripture teaches we all have a specific place in the body of Christ and to use our talents and gifts for His glory and the body of Christ.
