In my early teens I was a scrawny kid looking to build my self-esteem. I was naturally drawn to bodybuilding as all of the people I saw were fantastically transformed through excercise. For me, physical training seemed to have all of the benefits: better physique, better health, confidence, ability, etc.

As I looked into the programs, I told my father what I wanted to do. He looked at me and told me that if I ever gave up bodybuilding I would eventually become “bloated and flabby”. He recommended I do calisthenics rather than weights. That was also good advice but I was so convinced this was the path I wanted to take I looked him straight in the eye and told him…

“I will never stop working out”. Thirty years later I’m still going at it. My older and wiser self now applies this same conviction to the things of God. I made a commitment long ago to give my life over to Christ and live according to his will regardless of my circumstances. Spiritual training and growth is a lifelong commitment.
