You’re more than just made, you were uniquely created.
One of the industrial revolution’s most significant innovations was the assembly line used by Henry Ford to produce his cars. Ford’s dream was to make the automobile available to everyone, stating he wanted to make “a car for the great multitude.”
He started by first designing a car and then trying to figure out a way to manufacture the automobile inexpensively. It was then he noticed how Ransom E. Olds was mass-producing his vehicles. However, the problem with Old’s cars and his imitators was that the cars were too light to withstand the rough road’s wear and tear.
Taking advantage of this shortcoming, Ford used the assembly line idea to build a vehicle sturdy enough to run on the rough American country roads of that time, was also economical to operate, and easy to maintain and repair. As a result, he introduced the Model T in 1908, and by 1927 built over 15 million.
The secret sauce for Ford’s success was efficiency, simplicity, and repetition. The first Ford assembly line allowed little to minor variations in the basic model, a deliberate limitation to keep the cost low. Almost all Model T’s that came off the assembly line were nearly exact copies of each other, with little to no difference.
For the sake of profits, Ford made a car that was easy to replicate, inexpensive to manufacture, and available to a mass market.
This idea of mass production starkly contrasts what Scripture says about us. The Bible tells us that God created, not made us. Every one of us is different and unique. He takes an intentional and purposeful role in creating each one of us.
Remember that next time, someone refers to you as a “human” or as some inanimate object. You didn’t come off some universal mass assembly line because, as God’s creation, His fingerprint is on every part of your being. You’re more than just made, you were uniquely created.
