Not long ago, I had the privilege of volunteering to work on the Explore God campaign for our city. It’s a city-wide initiative that takes hundreds of hours, thousands of dollars, and a year to plan. All of this planning and investment is for people to ask difficult questions about God and engage in meaningful conversations.
This year the event drew thousands of people to a college stadium in the center of Miami, Fl. The guest speaker was non-other than Ravi Zacharias. I had the privilege of meeting him backstage before he went on. After years of listening to him through radio programs and reading his books, I finally met the man.
Not surprisingly, he was the same person. Nothing was different about him. His soft-spoken passion for reaching the lost, teaching truth and genuine love for people was evident. After listening to him, he was taken away and did what he does best.
Unfortunately, this was his last public appearance before he passed away. Fortunately, he leaves behind a lasting legacy and testimony of his dedication to God’s work.
His life’s story reminds us we’re all here for a brief time and to make the most of it. Not by making the most money, driving the best car, having the most women, or whatever your idea of success is. Success by biblical definition is loving God with all your being and following His will wherever it takes you.
